In order to mark the 200th anniversary of the arrival of German settlers in the Caucasus, this website was created to offer information on the history and culture of the Caucasus Germans. At the same time we are creating a digital database of sources (e.g. pictures, documents, oral history interviews etc.) and relevant research. This enables a research-based engagement with the topic. This future "Digital Archive of the Caucasus Germans" is also tied into sites of memory in the region via QR codes. We are also planning to include the North Caucasus, where over 120,000 Germans lived until they were deported in 1941, in 1941. As their emigration history is a very different one from those in the South Caucasus, it will be treated as a seperate chapter.
